Orlando was originally a centre for growing oranges in the centre of Florida, and it was not until the 1950s that there was a boom in the area, with the beginning of the space age ushering in high tech industries in the area.
Disneyworld opened in 1971 and transformed Orlando into the holiday destination it is today, other theme parks opened around it, and soon the area was attracting millions of people every year.
